Who are Interventional Radiologists

Interventional Radiologists are specialists who use imaging technique (including X-rays, ultrasound, computed tomography and magnetic resonance) to treat diseases percutaneously (through the skin) or through small wounds.  We insert catheters and other small equipments through the blood vessels and other pathways of the body to treat a wide variety of conditions that once required open surgery.

We have formal training in imaging, radiation safety, the performance of medical procedures and patient managements.

Our procedures are generally less costly and less traumatic to the patient.  Our patients will generally feel less pain and have shorter hospital stay.

Where are Interventional Radiologists

In Hong Kong, the scope of interventional radiology services provided is quite comprehensive and is generally available in most big hospitals.  However, the scope of coverage may vary in different hospitals.  Ask your physician in charge for possibility of interventional radiology service in your hospital.  If some service is not available, you probably can find it in the other hospitals.
